NICK ARANDA Las Piñas Artist

A born visual artist, Nick Aranda’s brush and palette knife captures the kaleidoscope of nature, still life and portraiture. His inherent talent is a testimony this dedication and commitment in the visual arts.
A native of Las Piñas City, Nick Aranda was born in Pulanglupa and graduated in St. Joseph Academy, who once upon a time served four years as councilor. During his school days, his talent was fully recognized by his teachers and classmates and this led to undergo apprenticeship at Hino Agawin Shop in Sta. Cruz, Manila. At the age of 13, he learned sign painting, figure and portraiture and became an artist-contractor in the film industry such as, Parlatone, LVN and Sampagiuta Pictures.
Nick Aranda is an example of a man who did not allow poverty to hinder him for pursuing his dreams to succeed. A painter who never had a formal training he was able to achieve his dreams of getting to the top.
Aranda’s Talent was honed practically through actual practice and hard work. He met and befriended artist such as the great Fernando Amorsolo, Crispin Villa Lopez, Frmin sanchez, Napoleon Noriel Simon Saulog and Mariano Guevarra who shared with them their views and knowledge about art. Keeping company with these artist had helped him widen his perspective in painting.
During the 1940’s Aranda’s art was concentrated mainly in the carromata and calesa design. During that time, he and Anastacio Francisco, who once owned Francisco motors Inc., were the most popular debuhista’s of calesa and carromata. They cater to the demands of Carroceria Tatlong Bituin and Carroceria Mata. His popularity in calesa design reached the far town of Laguna, where he formed the group of art painters of calesa design.
Aranda was not satisfied by his talent, he work hard and strive harder to improve his craft. Added to his line of artistic advocation is engaging in color photography which he learned by the sheer power of his intuition and observation when, where he worked at the U.S. Military Base at Wake Island, Hawaii for 11 years.
After so many years in the states, Aranda returned to the Philippines to pursue his love for art by being a professional painter, results like the “Sunflower Serries”, “Mother and Child” and the award-winning “Three Sisters” (Diwa ng Sining Finalist), “Asianan” (featured at GSIS coffee Table Book) are some of his finalist and most cherished works.
